But what about the older kids and young adults. There was always a limited scope of violence in Pokemon, which to me held back some of the series, but also understandably. But Pokemon aren't real and you can't kill them. I knew robots were the only thing that could counter Pokemon in the market so it had to be done with a mixture of psychology, market knowledge, and the inner 9-year-old that still wanted to be a Pokemon Master.
Gundam has cornered mecha with melodrama and the same child-soldier premise for so long I'm numb to it. Nothing could compete with that until I saw Medabots and saw hope. Can't wait until lunch or after school to take on kids with your newly caught Mewtwo or trained Charizard. Every kid, poor, rich, cool, nerd, weird, didn't matter they either had the card game or video game or both. One day I sat in my office thinking about Pokemon's impact on the world and particularly my childhood.

It was a show so full of wasted potential and great concepts but poorly execute. As the show progressed, the writing go progressively worse, to the point where you couldn't even finish some episodes because they were so bad. But Medabots gave us the cool talking, badass robot, Medabee whose personality was aggressive and fiery. Young boy protagonist meets his stubborn, independently thinking partner and begins a journey of discovery and challenge. It was very similar to the premise of Pokemon but just as different in many ways. As a kid raised in the first gen Pokemon era, I was introduced to a show called Medabots.
